Note that at time of posting, Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 8, hence the Pro 7's price drop. Add the optional keyboard cover and it'd still be cheaper than the iPad Pro. The Surface Pro 7 is now even more enticing due to a recent price reduction - it can be had for as low as $549 already on Microsoft's online store.
If you're looking to ditch the laptop for a tablet but still need access to traditional software, the Surface is a stronger option. In comparison to the Surface Pro 7, there's no question the advancements of the iPad Pro make it the superior device, but it still falls short as a true laptop replacement. The Surface Pro also runs on the Windows operating system, which is the same OS used by traditional Windows laptops. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Surface Pro has always delivered a laptop-like experience, with its 2-in-1 design with a detachable keyboard.
